Understanding Cybersecurity- NOW OR NEVER
Cybersecurity in a nutshell

"Cybersecurity is a serious business, but apparently, some companies just don't take it seriously enough. It's like playing with fire, but instead of getting burned, your sensitive info and reputation go up in smoke!

Employees, bless their hearts, are often the weakest link in a company's cybersecurity chain. All it takes is one curious click on a shady email link, or a password as secure as a rubber band, and BOOM! Hackers have free rein.

And companies that neglect cybersecurity measures are just asking for trouble. It's like leaving the front door open while you're on vacation. Sure, nothing might happen, but do you really want to take that chance?

So, it's time to create a sense of urgency, a FOMO, if you will. Companies can't ignore cybersecurity anymore, and they need to act fast before they become the next headline. Invest in employee education and the necessary tech, or face the consequences of a disastrous cyberattack.

In short, ignorance and neglect towards cybersecurity is a ticking time bomb. Don't wait for it to go off before taking action. Protect your company, protect your customers, and act now before it's too late!"

RIPPLE EFFECT OF A CYBERCRIME?

Cybercrime can have long-lasting effects on a business. The associated expenses, such as legal fees, insurance rate hikes, investigations, and negative publicity, can quickly lead to a company's downfall.

To maintain a secure environment, companies should educate all employees on security practices through a security awareness training program. With the rise of mobile and IoT devices, a mobile incident response plan is also necessary. The cost of data breaches is estimated to increase from $3 trillion annually to over $5 trillion in 2024, according to the report by Accenture.

The median cost of a cyber attack in the US, be it a data breach, malware, ransomware, or DDoS attack, rose from $10,000 in 2021 to $18,000 in 2022, affecting 47% of US businesses, as reported in the "Hiscox Cyber Readiness Report 2022."

On average, data breaches cost $4.35 million in 2022, with the healthcare industry experiencing the most costly breaches at $10.10 million. Breaches in the US are the most expensive, at $9.44 million.

Accenture reports that while 43% of cyber attacks target SMBs, only 14% of these businesses are prepared to defend themselves.

By 2023, cybercriminals are expected to steal 33 billion records, a 175% increase from 2018. By 2027, global spending on cybersecurity training is projected to reach $10 billion, according to Cybersecurity Ventures. As online user numbers increase, both insider and external threats become equally significant. Training employees to recognize security threats and report them can strengthen a company's cyber defense strategy.
